The party’s ruling council are to have a meeting to discuss preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections shortly and that target will be top of the agenda.

Meanwhile, the opposition said last week it would launch interpellation procedures against Environment Minister Kęstutis Trečiokas, a member of the Order and Justice party, after investigators released transcripts of his phone conversations with Druskininkai Mayor Ričardas Malinauskas.

Interpellation is a parliamentary procedure where MPs can ask a member of the cabinet to explain points of their actions. If the response is deemed unsatisfactory, parliament can remove the member of the cabinet or the entire government with a no-confidence vote.

Lithuania’s President Dalia Grybauskaitė has said that Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius has to decide on environment minister‘s ability to continue in the post.
