“(Pensions) have to be raised. Only I cannot say today by what amount. I am sticking to the principle that it has to be done earlier than July. It may be a lower amount, but people have to trust that that politicians will really increase (pensions) in January, depending on Lithuania’s country’s financial capacity,” he said on LRT Television on August 25 evening.
Social Security and Labour Minister Algimanta Pabedinskienė has said that the ministry will propose to increase pensions by 6 percent on average, or by around 16 euros per pensioner, next July.
The increase would require 75 million euros from the state social insurance fund Sodra’s budget and another 10 million euros from the central government budget.
The government on July 1 raised the amount of the basic state social insurance pension by 3 euros to 108 euros. The insured income level also increased by 3 euros, to 434 euros.
