Portugal, which leads the 47th NATO Baltic air-policing mission, has deployed four F-16 fighters to Siauliai and Spain has augmented the mission with six Eurofighter Typhoons at the airbase in northern Lithuania. France will conduct the mission with four Mirage 2000-5 fighters at Amari.

The mission changeover ceremony took place at the Siauliai airbase on Wednesday.

The outgoing Royal Danish Air Force Detachment guarded the Baltic skies with four F-16s.

The commanders discussed the air-policing mission’s prospects and possibilities for holding Allied air force exercises in Lithuania’s airspace in the future, the ministry said in a press release.
