According to the President, the budget for the coming year reflects the key priorities of the state – social and national security as well as the need for maintaining financial stability.

The head of state pointed out that the new cabinet had little time to adjust the budget for the coming year. Respective to capacity, the incomes of the lowest earners will be raised as well as wages for educators. Consistent funding for national defence and security is intended. Seeking to reduce the frequency of corruption cases, more funding has been diverted to institutions which oppose it – the Public Procurement Service and Competition Service.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė also stressed that the coming first half of the year will present the Seimas and cabinet with an important task of concluding the amendments of the Labour Code and ensuring a balance of market demand and employees’ interests.

The 2017 state budget is comprised of 8.48 billion euro income, while the expected expenditure is 9.04 million.
