“I believe that the military, like the police, must have psychological support and psychologists and get help. This is a statutory service that is even closer than law-enforcement,” Bakas told BNS.
“Apparently, changes will have to be made to ensure that, on one hand, signs or problems are spotted within the system and, on the hand, assistance is promptly provided to people,” he said,
The lawmaker said he was confident that the causes of the tragedy would be examined and conclusions would be made on how to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
Police have launched an investigation after the captain of the Second Investigations Department under the Lithuanian Defence Ministry, who is identified by his initials R.R., killed himself while on duty on Wednesday.
Members of the Seimas Board visited the Second Investigations Department, which is in charge of military intelligence, on Wednesday morning. Bakas said that he did not know if the officer committed suicide while the lawmakers were visiting the department.
Viktoras Pranckietis, the speaker of the parliament, told reporters that they were not informed about the incident during the visit.
“Apparently, not while we were there,” he said.
