Latvia becomes the first post-Soviet country to host the event, which takes place in a different European city each year.
The parade – which was heavily policed – seemed to go smoothly, despite some protestors burning a rainbow flag as the procession made its way back to Vērmanes Park Saturday afternoon.
Attendance was 3000 up on the 2000 predicted. Organizers said a typical figure for previous Pride festivals in the city was around 800.
