“This was his personal decision. He plans to pursue a career in the private sector, furthermore, reform of regional road maintenance companies will be completed,” Vytautė Smaižytė, adviser to the transport and communications minister, told BNS. Skrodenis should leave the position on November 15.
Skrodenis, 36, took helm of the Lithuanian Road Administration in December of 2015 for a term that was due to expire in late 2019.
He said he wanted to go to private business for a higher salary but refused to specify his plans.
“I decided to step down because I am 36, many changes in the Road Administration have already been implemented, restructuring of regional road maintenance companies will be completed on Oct. 31. The Road Administration will be restructured, public procurement will be centralized, a year-long quality check of roads will be launched. Everything has been done and I want to test myself in new fields,” Skrodenis told BNS.
Restructuring of state-run road maintenance companies will include merger of 10 regional road maintenance firms and Automagistrale unit.
