“We will seek for an objective response to Russia’s intentions to limit the import of Dutch flowers,” says Sergejus Fedotovas, head of Lithuania’s State Plant Service.
Earlier this week, Russia banned imports of cut flowers from the Netherlands due to the presence of quarantine organisms on them. Russia’s flower import ban could be imposed on Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia. This due to the fact that phytosanitary services of these countries issue certificates for flowers that are grown in the Netherlands, and thus do not guarantee safety of flowers exported to Russia.
Flowers that are transported from other countries, including Latin America, are shipped through the Netherlands.
