The suspended disqualification means that if Russian fans exhibit any additional violence in future matches during the ongoing UEFA football championship, the team will be disqualified.
9 English fans have been arrested in the violence, and about 50 Russian fans are being prepared for deportation from France.
Though most Russian officials have signaled acceptance of any disciplinary measures from UEFA and apology for the fans’ actions, some have even celebrated the mayhem. Igor Lebedev, Russian PM and a leading figure in the Russian football association, told fans to “keep it up.”
