Lithuanian prosecutors say the suspect is employed with the Russian Federal Security Service. Giedrius Misutis, spokesman for the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service, told BNS the Russian border service was part of the Federal Security Service.
According to the judicial information system LITEKO, the suspect is Ruslan Peregud.
Prosecutor Linas Franciakas told BNS he would propose a penalty during the Tuesday hearing, refusing to reveal it beforehand. Under the Criminal Code, unlawful crossing of the state border is punishable by a fine, arrest or up to two years in prison.
Case information suggests the defendant had crossed the River Šešupė in the Šakiai district, southwestern Lithuania, on September 9 to enter Lithuania.
Prosecutors say the defendant had fully admitted to the offence, asking the court to hear the case on the fast track.
