Sabaitienė, like Šatūnas, will be responsible for the coordination of European issues and international cooperation in the energy sector, as well as for the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant decommissioning, radioactive waste and nuclear safety enhancement issues.
Lithuanian Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas told BNS that Šatūnas was leaving because of natural rotation.
Šatūnas also told BNS that he had planned to work as deputy minister for a year to a year and a half.
Both officials said that Šatūnas’ resignation had nothing to do with a law-enforcement investigation into a suspected non-transparent sale of the Ignalina NPP assets, which forced the plant’s CEO Darius Janulevičius to step down in early January.
