Sculpture of John Lennon to be unveiled in Vilnius

Photographer Saulius Paukštys, who is behind the idea, told BNS that the bronze sculpture of Lennon would measure more than 2 meters in height and would be placed in a neighbourhood of residential buildings in central Vilnius. The design and erection of the sculpture was financed by the city’s businesspeople.

Twenty years ago, Paukštys built a bust of another prominent musician, Frank Zappa, in central Vilnius.

Paukštys said the society often question the merits of Zappa or Lennon to Vilnius.

“Of course, neither Zappa, nor Lennon came to Vilnius. However, both Lennon and Zappa are directly related with the course of evolution of creative thinking and cultural development of a few generations, as the works by these musicians had a major effect upon people during the Soviet era and now,” he said.
