Meanwhile, the spokeswoman for the party’s leader, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius, says the final decision is yet to be made.

The final decision on accepting or rejecting the presidential veto will be made after the parliament convenes in the autumn session in early September.

“From the discussions with my colleagues now I see that many are in support of approving (the presidential veto). I believe my colleagues will not refuse a package of proposals that would serve for a better balance in the labour market,” Sysas told BNS Lithuania.

Meanwhile spokeswoman for the party’s leader, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius, told BNS that the final decision on the Labour Code had not been finalized yet.

“We have not yet made the final political decision on supporting or rejecting the veto. (…) Whatever Sysas said is his opinion, no final decision has been made, the Political Council is yet to meet and discuss it,” spokeswoman Evelina Butkutė-Lazdauskienė told BNS.

After a meeting with representatives of trade unions last week, Butkevičius pledged to put his signature under the agreements with the trade unions as a guarantee that the parliament would take them into consideration and refrain from any changes.

In early July, President Dalia Grybauskaitė vetoed the Labour Code that liberalizes labour relations, saying it was an insufficient safeguard of employee rights and allowed domination of employers.
