A very clear indication that something like an attack was planned or that suspicious persons had entered Lithuania would be needed for the level of threat to be raised.

“There are no reasons to panic,” said Darius Jauniškis, the head of the The State Security Department.

“People need to be calm, not to panic, but as in every case, immediately inform the police about suspicious objects, persons,” said Interior Minister Saulius Skvernelis.

Security at Lithuanian public events and crowded places will be reinforced according to Jauniškis, saying he had agreed new measures with the Interior Minister.

Slightly tighter security controls have been introduced at Lithuanian airports but the protection of public buildings will not be increased.

Jauniškis said that there is currently no information that there is a terrorist threat to Lithuania or its citizens.
