“Ukraine would not withstand an internal war among oligarchs now. I don’t think we are in a state where we could as well please Russian President Vladimir Putin with an internal war,” the professor of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev told BNS.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Wednesday fired powerful tycoon Ihor Kolomoisky as regional of Dnepropetrovsk after armed men, apparently loyal to him, stormed into the office of the state-owned oil monopoly UkrTransNafta in Kiev last Thursday night after its director, his ally, was suddenly replaced.

Kiev says Kolomoisky himself asked to be dismissed after his dispute with Poroshenko over the control of the oil company evolved into an open confrontation.

Kolomoisky’s „real, factual” influence was one of the key threats to the Ukrainian president, Zadorozhny said.

Zadorozhny is a professor at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev and a former member of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada. He’s now the head of a council of leading academicians advising Poroshenko on international legal issues.
