Water security zone marked out around Klaipėda LNG terminal

The chain of buoys is 500 metres long, 11 larger buoys contain light bulbs which at night emit light visible from one nautical mile away.

Klaipėdos Nafta investment in these navigation signs are worth nearly EUR 90,000.

“Based on the company’s investment plans, we projected to establish a visible security zone around the terminal. It became especially relevant during the summer season, once active navigation began around the LNG terminal. By establishing the navigation system we seek to inform fishermen, yachtsmen and holidaymakers sailing on recreation boats that they are nearing the terminal’s security zone, which must not be breached. In some cases small ships used to sail too close to the terminal because there were no clear warning signs, so we have dealt with this inconvenience,” said Mantas Bartuška, Director General of Klaipėdos Nafta.
