The number of work permits issued in the services sector last year rose by 11.4 percent year-on-year to 4,800 and in the construction sector by 3.1 times to 113. The number of work permits issued in the industrial sector fell by 30.1 percent to 502.
Professions with insufficient available workforce accounted for 5,000 of the work permits issued last year. In particular, 4,300 permits were issued to international drivers, 131 to skilled workers, 43 to engineers, 18 to IT professionals and 16 to economists.
Nearly 40,000 foreigners resided in Lithuania in 2014, a rise of 12.7 percent from 2013.
