Vilnius will host a week of various events, including concerts, excursions, conference, book presentations and events to honour Jew savers and commemorate Holocaust victims.
The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research in Vilnius operated from 1925 until WWII and conducted research into the life of Jews across Eastern Europe – from Germany to Russia, from the Baltic states to the Balkans.
The institute collected Jewish folklore, memoirs, books and publications, documents of the Jewish community, issued dictionaries, brochures and monographs. The majority of documents, part of which date back to the XVII century, are written in Yiddish and Hebrew.
