Baltic states to cooperate on tackling terrorist groups

Such cooperation prospects were discussed on Friday by the interior ministers of the three Baltic states who met in Lithuania.

Lithuanian Minister of the Interior Dailis Alfonsas Barakauskas said at the press conference that specialists would be assigned immediately to model how relative institutions of the Baltic states should operate in case of a threat to public security in any of the three countries. International working group will consider the issue.

According to Hanno Pevkur, Estonian Minister of the Interior and Regional Affairs, the Baltic countries have to strengthen police forces and capabilities to combat extremists and terrorists, in case they show up in their territories. Pevkur was pleased that the decision was reached to provide help to each other if needed. He said that the countries have to constantly cooperate, exchange information and observe what is happening near the borders.
