Butkevičius not elected as parlt vice-speaker

Butkevičius was supported by 66 parliamentarians, while 53 were against and 14 abstained.

The elected vice-speakers include Rima Baškienė, Arvydas Nekrošius, Gediminas Kirkilas bei Irėna Degutienė.

Baškienė and Nekrošius were delegated by the Lithuanian Peasant and Green Union that won the October parliamentary elections, Butkevičius and Kirkilas were nominated by their coalition partners, the Social Democrats, while Degutienė was a candidate of the largest opposition political group, the conservative Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats.

Baskienė was supported by the highest number of Lithuania’s 141 MPs (105), while 15 were against and 14 abstained. Degutienė secured 101 votes, with 18 against and 16 abstentions. Kirkilas was backed by 96 parliamentarians, 20 were against and 19 abstained, while Nekrošius had 82 votes in support, 24 against and 27 abstentions.

Kirkilas and Degutienė served as Seimas vice-speakers in the 2012-2016 parliament.
