EC to give €53 million to foster growth across Lithuanian-Polish border

Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu says that the INTERREF Programmes are very concrete examples of how the European Union is helping its citizens to work on common tasks and exploit common potential.

“The Programme that was adopted today allows Lithuania and Poland to step up integration of their border regions, first of all, in the areas of environmental protection and sustainable tourism,” Cretu said.

The INTERREG V-A Lithuania – Poland Programme is the successor programme to the Cross Border Cooperation Programme Lithuania – Poland 2007-2013. The current Programme seeks to contribute to regional growth and quality of life through closer cross-border cooperation between people and institutions of the Programme area.

In the period between 2014 and 2020, the overall objective of the Programme is to foster smart, sustainable and inclusive growth in the border area through cross-border cooperation.

The eligible area of the Programme is comprised of eight territorial units: five south-western Lithuanian counties and three north-eastern Polish subregions. Total size of the Programme area is 49,434 km2.
