Experts call for allowing asylum seekers to work in Lithuania

Luminor‘s chief economist Žygimantas Mauricas says that once immigrants are allowed into the country, their rights should be brought closer to those enjoyed by the local population.

“The key to fully integrating someone into society is granting them rights as similar as possible or even identical to those enjoyed by local people,” he told the paper.

According to Lietuvos Žinios, Lithuania remains the only EU country that does not allow asylum seekers to work after Ireland lifted the ban a month ago.
