The amount of contraband cigarettes coming in from Belarus was not decreasing, Arūnas Adomėnas, the head of the Lithuanian Customs Department told lrytas.lt, but the cigarrettes travel to Lithuania via other countries – mainly through the Latvian border.
Šiauliai was the city with highest consumption of smuggled cigarettes in Lithuania in the last quarter of last year. Illegal cigarettes constituted 34.3% of the cigarette consumption in the city.
The Nielsen study showed that the most popular brand was the Grodno Tobacco Factory‘s Neman cigarettes.
