India’s minister visits Lithuania to unveil monument for Gandhi

Mr Kundariya will jointly inaugurate the sculpture with the Prime Minister of Lithuania, Mr. Algirdas Butkevičius, on October 2, which is the 146th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The ceremony will take place in Kallenbach’s birthplace, Rusnė, 300 kilometers from the capital city Vilnius.

Kallenbach became a close friend and confidant of Bapu in South Africa after they first met in 1904. Also present at the occasion will be Ambassador of Lithuania to India Mr. Laimonas Talat – Kelpša, Ambassador of India to Lithuania Mr. Ajay Bisaria, the great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi Mr. Tushar Gandhi and great grand nephew of Kallenbach, Mr Eli Sarid.

Mr. Kundaria will also hold bilateral talks with Vice Agriculture Minister of Lithuania, Mr. Vilius Martusevičius, to identify opportunities for agriculture sector cooperation, particularly in food processing and dairy products. He is also scheduled to visit an agricultural university and a dairy plant to see Lithuanian technology in action. The Minister from India is also expected to meet some of the 600 Indian students in Lithuania.
