“Buy Latvian dairy and fish products. This way you will help Latvian companies that are engaged in export,” said the prime minister in her interview to Rīta panorāma programme of LTV. She added that sustainability of Latvian companies partially depends on actions of Latvian buyers.

She admits that this situation is especially unpleasant because Latvia and the EU had only just recovered from the previous crisis. “It is unpleasant because we had only just recovered from the crisis when tension in Ukraine began to rise. European states managed to overcome the last crisis. They will overcome this one,” said Straujuma.

Russia has imposed a “full embargo” in relation to many food products from the EU, Norway and United States of America, all of whom have introduced sanctions against Russia in relation to Moscow’s policy in Ukraine.
