Mr. Linkevičius has said that Lithuania and Poland has common strategic projects like electricity, gas and transport connections. Regarding the security situation, the Baltic states and Poland are in the same boat, he believes. It would make no sense these strategic interests and advancements were overshadowed by minor local issues.
After right-wing Law and Justice party won in Poland’s general elections, Lithuanian observers have expressed concern that the party’s insistence on protecting Polish ethnic minorities in other countries might cause tensions in relations between Warsaw and Vilnius. At 6.6 percent, Polish-speakers are the biggest ethnic minority in Lithuania.
