“We confirm that we have taken a decision regarding Titov, granting him refugee status,” Evelina Gudzinskaitė, the department’s director, told BNS.
The Migration Department in February 2017 refused to grant asylum to Titov, saying that his fears were objectively unsubstantiated.
The Lithuanian Supreme Administrative Court last October told the authority to reconsider the Russian journalist’s application for asylum.
Gudzinskaitė says that the Russian national informed the department about certain additional circumstances in his renewed application
“It was due to these newly provided circumstances that a different decision was adopted,” the official said.
She added that the situation in Russia had changed over that year and a half.
The journalist came to Lithuania in 2016, saying that he had been followed in Russia and faced indirect threats over his activities.
