Participants will lay flowers at the Holocaust memorial in Paneriai, near the Lithuanian capital, and a ceremony will be held at the Museum of Genocide Victims.
August 2 has been selected as the day to commemorate the genocide of Roma people by the Nazis because on this day in 1944 almost 3,000 inmates of the so-called “gypsy camp” were killed in gas chambers.
Historians say that the Nazis killed about half of the European Roma population of one million during World War Two.
Lithuania was home to about 1,500 Roma people, a third of whom perished during the war.
