The meeting discussed the weekend’s tragedy in the Mediterranean Sea when several hundred refugees travelling to Europe from Libya drowned after their boat capsized, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
“Lithuania will not stay aside and will look for ways to contribute to the EU and the international community’s efforts to resolve the migration problem and its consequences,” the minister said.
Linkevičius underlined that it was important not only to help refugees but also deal with the migration causes in Libya. These issues must be discussed by the UN Security Council, the minister said.
