The training event will involve over 3,000 troops, officers and staff of the Lithuanian army, the Ministries of National Defense, the Interior and Health, municipalities and the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union.
“Since we state there’s such a situation where the Lithuanian army needs to learn to act on its own and together with other force institutions, so after a lengthy break we are organizing such exercises without the involvement of our foreign partners. We will be learning to act on our own,” the chief of defense told journalists, adding that the last similar national exercises were held in Lithuania back in 1998.
On Thursday, a partial mobilization exercise will take place and 1,000 prepared reserve troops will be called in for an information update and medical checkup.
A tactical field exercise will be held on May 4-10 and will involve practical testing of the cyber protection system as well as simulation of various emergency situation and incidents that, in terms of their nature, are not comparable to acts of aggression. Besides other elements, a risk of attack against the LNG terminal and Palanga Airport will be simulated. The operations will be led by Klaipėda police supported by the army.
The third exercise stage will take place at the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area in Pabradė on May 13 and Gaižiūnai Training Area in Jonava District on May 21.
