Lithuanian carriers’ association suggests another explanation over problems at Russian border

Andrey Belyaninov, the head of Federal Customs Service of Russia, had previously said that all cargoes crossing the Lithuanian border from the European Union to Russia are inspected more rigorously in order to prevent imports of embargo goods to Russia. According to Misiūnas, Linava so far has not received any official documents regarding these statements, therefore, the real reason could be Russia’s absence from the TIR system.

“We believe that Ruyssia, which refused to use the international TIR system more than a year ago, has been deprived of the opportunity to ensure transportation transparency,” the vice president of Linava said.

The TIR Convention is a multilateral treaty concluded in 1975 with the purpose of simplifying and harmonising the administrative formalities of international road transport.
