A systemic risk capital buffer size can range from zero to 5% but Vasiliauskas said the Bank of Lithuania is only now deciding on whether there is a need for banks to hold such a reserve.

At present, banks are required to comply with the minimum 8% of the total capital adequacy and 0.025 rate of the capital conservation buffer.

Six Lithuanian banks and eight foreign bank branches are currently operating in Lithuania.
