Lithuanian dairy products can be sold locally, says Food and Veterinary Service chief

Jonas Milius told BNS that Lithuanian dairy products with Russian labels can be sold locally.

“I think dairy products made for the Russian market can be successfully sold in [local] retail chains, like it was a year ago when an embargo was imposed on these products. There won’t be any problem about the Russian packaging as far as we are concerned. Another question is why Lithuanian products are not sold at markets,” he said.

Based on preliminary information, 16 trucks carrying estimated 400 tons of Russian-labelled Lithuanian dairy products have been sent back from the border with Russia after Moscow imposed one-year restrictions on imports from the EU and other countries.

BNS has information that Lithuanian dairies also have surplus products that have been made for the Russian market but not yet labelled.
