The 74th International Cannes Film Festival and fair Marché du Film began in Cannes, France on July 6. Even though we won’t be seeing any Lithuanian films at the competition programme, the name of Lithuania will echo at the Marché du Film fair which attracts film industry representatives from around the globe, the Lithuanian Film Centre writes in its press release.
During the fair at the Cannes film festival, Lithuania along with Latvia and Estonia will present their short films at the Short Film Corner dedicated to the film industry. In the programme Baltic Shorts the newest Baltic short films will be presented. Among the 10 films, there will be 3 Lithuanian shorts: Mothers (dir. Birutė Kapustinskaitė), Mora Mora (dir. Jurga Šeduikytė) and Daddy (dir. Justas Ramanauskas).
On 15th July the representatives of the short film industry will be invited to the discussion Small Countries Big Impacts: The Short Film Production Ecosystem of the Baltics, which will review the short film situation and potential in the Baltics.
Lithuanian film producers Dagnė Vildžiūnaitė (Just a Moment) and Uljana Kim (Studio Uljana Kim) will participate in the programme dedicated to the producers – „Producers Network 2021“.
Last year when the Marché du Film fair was relocated to the virtual space, the Lithuanian Pavilion which was celebrating its 10th anniversary at the festival was also only accessible online. This year Lithuanian Film Centre after one year’s break will once again reopen the physical Lithuanian Film Pavilion at the fair. It will invite the visitors of the fair to familiarise themselves with the most important news of the Lithuanian film as well as the latest information.
At the Lithuanian Film Pavilion the visitors will be able to find out about the very generous conditions of film production in Lithuania as well as the record-breakingly successful Film Tax Incentive, which has been running for eight years, film production results. In the last year the film producers, who have taken advantage of the Film Tax Incentive, have received 11.3 mln Eur for film production from Lithuanian businesses. It is the largest sum collected the whole time the incentive has been running.
Presentation of Lithuania and its talents at the Cannes Film Festival and fair is funded by the Lithuanian Film Centre.
