“We decided to establish such a centre for emigrants returning to Lithuania. It will be established in early 2015. The aim of such a centre is to provide reliable information to Lithuanians living abroad on returning to Lithuania and all issues related to life in Lithuania,” the prime minister told the national radio LRT.
The agreement on the centre’s establishment is due to be signed between the Ministry of the Interior and the International Migration Organization shortly. Around 242,000 litas (over EUR 70,000) will be allocated for the establishment of the new centre.
Figures show Lithuania has lost around 30,000 residents every year on average since 2000. A third of the population loss was due to negative natural growth and two thirds due of migration.
