Lithuanian parliament makes first move to ban smoking in balconies

DELFI / Mindaugas Ažušilis

The draft amendments, submitted by MP Antanas Matulas, were supported by 46 MPs, while 5 MPs voted against with 22 abstentions. After discussions in the Seimas committees, the draft law should be returned for the Seimas voting on 1 December.

MP Matulas expects that the ban would better protect people from passive smoking and its harmful effects.

“Why should another person, a non-smoker, living in an apartment building, suffer?” the politician asked.
