Lithuanian PM calls on Ukrainian Govt to continue reforms

At a meeting with Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Butkevičius stressed the importance of due preparation for the implementation of the European Union (EU) association and free trade agreement in order for it to take effect on January 1 next year.

In the Lithuanian PM’s words, Lithuania’s experience is that implementation of the agreement is the only way of modernizing economy and boosting competitive abilities.

The participants of the meeting noted the significance of continued reforms, particularly in the fields of implementation of counter-corruption measures, courts and public service, improvement of the energy sector and the business setting, the Lithuanian government said in a press release.

Butkevičius also invited Ukraine to use the Lithuanian Klaipeda seaport and the railway infrastructure.
