Lithuanian president gets provocative question from Russian reporter in Brussels

How should the EU teach Russia a lesson, the reporter asked in Russian. “Life itself will teach a lesson,” Grybauskaitė replied, also in Russian, as she made a brief stop outside the European Council building.

“No one has to teach anyone. One just needs to understand responsibility for one’s actions. No one has the right to claim foreign territories. One must respect neighbours,” Grybauskaitė told reporters in Brussels.

“Occupation is bad. Europe will never accept it,” she added in English.

President Grybauskaitė is attending a European Union Council summit in Brussels on 23-24 October. European leaders are discussing EU climate and energy policy as well as issues of energy security, the EU’s economy and external policy.
