On Wednesday in Almaty, Kazakhstan, AB Lithuanian Railways Deputy General Manager Stasys Gudvalis and AB KTZ Express President Sanzhar Eliubaev signed a freight forwarding contract, under which KTZ Express will purchase transport and logistics services from Lithuanian Railways.
“We agreed that in the near future we will begin pilot shipments of cargo from China. The rail infrastructure operating in Lithuania will be utilized for distribution to Scandinavian and Western European countries,” said Gudvalis.
About 800,000 tons of cargo per year are transported on railroads between Lithuania and Kazakhstan. The main goods transported are mineral, oil and food products.
Gudvalis said the freight forwarding contract is a real step forward in strengthening cooperation between Lithuania and Kazakhstan. It is expected that it will expand the range of services and increase the volume of cargo shipments between the two countries.
