Lithuanian UN ambassador meets with chairman of Crimean Tatar Mejlis

The Crimean Tatar leader presented the situation of the Crimean Tatars and thanked Lithuania for its continued support to their efforts to protect their rights, Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.

The Lithuanian permanent representative reiterated that Lithuania would not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea. She emphasized the need for the international community to maintain its attention on human rights, the situation of Tatars and other ethnic minorities in Crimea.

Ambassador Murmokaitė stressed that the Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine deployed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights played a crucial role in reporting on the human rights situation in Crimea. The ambassador underlined that the current UNPFII session demonstrated the need to keep the issue of Ukraine, including Crimea, on the agenda of the UN Security Council and other UN bodies.
