“The Labour Party is convinced that Lithuania is not ready to accept 325 refugees, and does not approve of the European Commission‘s proposed solution of distributing refugees among member states to resolve this problem,” the statement reads.
“The distribution of refugees among EU member states itself and sending them to Lithuania is a wrong solution to this problem as it in fact does not change anything and only plants ticking bombs in the foundations of member states. Linguistic, cultural, and religious differences of these people and the states they will be sent to must be taken into account. And it’s easy to realize that integration of these refugees will not only be difficult but it will practically be impossible,” Labour Party leader Valentinas Mazuronis was quoted as saying in the statement.
On Monday, EU interior ministers agreed that Lithuania will accept 325 refuges over the next two years.
