“Making the performance of Tourism Department more efficient is one of my priorities. Operations of the department represent Lithuania, therefore, it is very important to have a professional institution meeting the highest management standards headed by a competent leader, with financing linked with the results achieved,” Sinkevičius said in a press release.
On Monday, he said the competition should be terminated, followed by restructuring of the institution into a public establishment.
He then said that change of the legal form would allow attracting a better leader and cut administrative costs.
The Economy Ministry is in search for a new chief of the Tourism Department after its former leader Justina Kazlauskienė stepped down in February after it turned out that companies presenting Lithuania to foreigners were using photographs having nothing to do with Lithuania.
The third competition involved five candidates. At the beginning of February, the Economy Ministry said the new director would be picked at the beginning of 2018.
