“The Seimas opposition is entitled to initiating interpellation against any minister, and it is exercising the right. Minister Veryga will answer all interpellation questions as soon as he receives them. In such cases, the questions should be submitted in accordance to the set proceedings, therefore, the answers will be given in accordance to the necessary procedures,” the ministry said in a comment to BNS.
BNS was unable to reach Veryga on Monday.
The Lithuanian parliament’s opposition groups on Monday decided to initiate interpellation proceedings against Health minister Aurelijus Veryga delegated by the ruling Farmers and Greens Union.
“We had a meeting today and decided to start drafting questions – submitting questions is the first step for interpellation. Today we will try finalizing the questions among opposition groups,” Gabrielius Landsbergis, elder of the opposition group of Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (conservatives), told BNS on Monday.
In his words, the preliminary plan is to ask the minister about the situation surrounding prescription medication, as well as about the decision not to raise doctor wages from Jan. 1, hiring of persons of political confidence and pressure upon top executives of institutions subordinate to the Health Ministry to resign.
