PM urges Lithuanian community in Iceland to join in building Lithuania‘s future

After a short presentation of current political and economic situation in Lithuania, the prime minister thanked the representatives of the community for a sincere and significant activity in spreading the word about Lithuania and uniting Lithuanians abroad.

“I would like to thank you for this meeting and to encourage to build Lithuania’s future together despite the distance. Only by working together will we successfully foster Lithuanian culture, protect our national identity and maintain connection with Lithuania,” said Mr. Butkevičius.

The Lithuanian community of Iceland was established in 2008 and has over 160 members. Its activities centre around the Lithuanian Sunday school which has five teachers and 50 students. According to Iceland’s statistics bureau, there were 1,659 Lithuanians living in Iceland at the end of 2014.
