Lukasz Kister, director of the company’s Security Department, said he saw a Russian hand in the situation, biznesalert.pl portal said.
“Russia has been active in the Baltic Sea region lately. The example is the latest information about Poland burdening the synchronization of power networks with the Baltic states, which is not true, as we are planning a second link, in addition to the existing LitPol Link, therefore, it is important for us to develop a synchronized system, which would not have a negative effect upon the European energy system,” Kister said.
“The information appeared to trigger negative comments about our cooperation and make us make excuses about something that never happened. This may indeed ave a far worse effect than the actual attacks, which we are ready for. The information was an element of information warfare.
Representatives of operators know well what the actual cooperation looks like,” said PSE figure said.
The operations of the Lithuanian-Polish LitPol Link has been in the spotlight lately. Eesti Energia’s CEO Hand Sutter has accused PSE of breaching its commitments by disconnecting the 500-megawatt power line at night, which has an impact on electricity prices in the Baltic states.
PSE said last week that nighttime energy imports could destabilize the country’s energy system due to the low demand at the time. Representatives of the Polish administration said it was a necessary step to protect coal-based power plants from cheap and subsidized energy.
