DELFI / Andrius Ufartas

A mobile service provider has demonstrated 4.5 gigabit per second mobile internet speed, the fastest in the Baltic countries so far.

It has been demonstrated by Tele2 and telecommunications equipment maker Nokia.

To compare, 4G (LTE) mobile internet speed is usually 15-50 megabits per second (Mbps), + 4G (LTE-Advanced) – 50-150 Mbps.

5G network can provide higher data download and upload speeds, lower latency and other qualitative improvements. All this means opportunities for the development of smart cities, remote surgery, autonomous vehicles, expanding the internet of things and other mobile internet application possibilities.

At the beginning of the year, Omnitel installed 4.5G technology in a functioning network, making it the first in the Baltic countries and one of the first in the world. In reality, the network reached more than 750 Mb/s download speed.
