“The LVŽS will announce its decision during its meeting, which will take place at a date set by the country. Preliminary, I think it will happen at the end of this year or early next year,” Ramūnas Karbauskis told reporters.
Karbauskis said the party’s candidate will differ from other presidential hopefuls in that he or she will represent ordinary people rather than elites.
“We believe that the LVŽS’s candidate will win the presidential election, because he will be a candidate who will represent the grassroots, rather than the elites the president spoke about. (…) Those who have declared themselves as candidates represent the elites,” he said.
The ruling party’s chairman said the LVŽS-delegated Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis is among such persons.
“Our prime minister is among those who actually hear and talk with people as equals,” he said.
Seven people have already announced their decision to run for the presidency next May, including MEP Petras Auštrevičius, philosopher Arvydas Juozaitis, MP Aušra Maldeikienė, MEP Valentinas Mazuronis, economist Gitanas Nausėda, MP Naglis Puteikis and diplomat Vygaudas Ušackas.
