“I asked Mr. ambassador about the supply of 150 tons of ammunition from Lithuania to Ukraine and how those deliveries matched the provisions of the Minsk agreements. He promised to inform the Lithuanian ambassador about our concerns,” Moskalkova told TASS after meeting Ušackas, a Lithuanian diplomat.
Earlier this month, Lithuania donated ammunition that is no longer used in the Lithuanian Armed Forces to the Defense Ministry of Ukraine.
Captain Tomas Pakalniskis, public relations officer at the Lithuanian army’s Joint Staff, told BNS that the shipment to Ukraine contained 150 tons of ammunition, mainly various modifications of Kalashnikov munitions, which do not comply with NATO standard weaponry.
Russia’s Embassy later dismissed the Lithuanian move as alarming.
In a comment to BNS on Wednesday, Ušackas confirmed having been asked by Moskalkova about the Lithuanian military assistance to Ukraine.
“I told her I would forward the information to the Lithuanian ambassador. As far as I know, it was a response to a bilateral request of a friendly country, Ukraine,” the diplomat told BNS.
The Western world and Kiev have been accusing Moscow of sending munitions and troops to support of pro-Russian separatists in Eastern Ukraine over the past two years. The Kremlin has denied the accusations. The war in Eastern Ukraine has already claimed nearly 10,000 lives.
