“The flow of Russian [tourists] has been decreasing at a fast pace since spring. According to our estimations, the fall is approximately 30 percent. Bookings for the New Year have been slow this year. We haven’t seen such a fall for six or seven years,” Evalda Šiškauskienė, president of the Lithuanian Association of Hotels and Restaurants, told BNS.

According to the association, the number of Russian citizens who plan to celebrate the New Year in Lithuania has fallen considerably this year.

“When there is a war in the country and economic tensions, travel is not a priority. I’d say that defamation about Lithuania is also having some effects. Moreover, some tourism agencies have collapsed in Russia, which has undermined people’s trust in this sector’s companies,” Šiškauskienė told BNS.

She added that the actual number of tourists from Russia or Belarus who would come to Lithuania to celebrate the New Year would be known early next year.
