“We are closely following the situation and we are worried. It is deplorable and, I’d say, hardly a coincidence that Russia-supported terrorists intensified shooting assaults right after the terrorist attacks in Paris. It is a worrying circumstance and we can hardly talk about a truce in this region any more,” Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius was quoted as saying by LRT television on Wednesday.

Following a relative calm in September and October, clashes between government forces and Moscow-supported separatists in Donetsk and Luhansk intensified in November, with both sides accusing one another of provoking tensions. On Saturday, Ukraine reported five deaths, followed by more casualties this week.

During their visit in Ukraine, Linkevičius and Sweden’s Margot Wallstrom met with the country’s political and society leaders.
